1Since 90 A.D. at the Council of Jamnia. Furthermore, to provide consistency, the books are listed in English and in Christian order rather than by their Hebrew title and order in the Tanakh; also, many writings that are considered apocryphal or pseudopigraphical by Christian denominations are not labeled per se by Talmudic Jews, but are instead referred to in the Mishnah or Talmud.

2All items marked with a (*) are considered deuterocanonical by that particular denomination.

3There are six writings attributed to the prophet Ezra. They are each called by differing names among the varying denominations of the church, which causes great confusion. I have named the books according to how each denomination calls them.

4The Hebrew portion of Esther is included as canonical by both Jews and all branches of the Christian church. The Greek portion, found in the Septuagint, is recognized by Jewish tradition but is considered deuterocanonical by Talmudic Jews and Protestants.

5Roman Catholics include the Letter of Jeremiah in with Baruch. I agree, as the context and flow of this book indicate that they should be together.

6The Hebrew portion of Daniel is included as canonical by both Jews and all branches of the Christian church. The Greek portion, found in the Septuagint, is recognized by Jewish tradition but is considered deuterocanonical by Talmudic Jews and Protestants.

71 and 2 Maccabees are accepted by modern Talmudic Jews as true history, but not necessarily divinely inspired.

8The B'rit Chadashah is also accepted by some Jewish groups, particularly Messianic Jews. Ebionites, a Jewish-Christian group from the Western Roman Empire in the 2nd Century A.D. whose teaching is primarily resurfacing among some Hebrew Roots Christians in Central and South America, accept the Gospels, but not the writings of the Apostle Paul.

9All the works referenced by Sha'ul were written by the Apostle Paul, known as Rabbi Sha'ul in Hebrew; so the official title would be 'Letter from Sha'ul to the ____.'
